Leadership Philosophy
Leadership is the act of stepping up in order to unite a group under a shared vision that has the purpose of accomplishing an act for the greater good of a team, organization, or community.
Personal Statement
Over the years I have had the privilege of watching some of my role models grow into amazing leaders by leaving their comfort zone, making hard decisions, and staying dedicated to their core values. I watched these leaders, as I grew up, and developed my own personal leadership style and core values. I believe I am a mix of a transformational leader and servant leader, who believes strong communication can fix most problems. What we say matters. How we say it matters even more.

Communication is the Key to Success.
Communication is the Key to Success.
To be a successful organization a team needs to be vulnerable. No real communication can take place when it will not go past surface level. Communication is key to relationship building which can determine an organizations health and success. To build relationships leaders may need to over communicate and remind their team of the small things.
Conflict is Healthy!
Many teams are scared of conflict and view it as a negative thing. Conflict can have a positive outcome on an organization if a leader handles it correctly. This includes choosing the right approach, acting maturely, and processing consequences. It takes a knowledgable leader who knows how to handle conflict to be able to implement it as a constructive activity, but it can be done.
I believe I personally have a decent relationship with conflict. I was lucky enough to be raised in an environment where conflict was viewed as a healthy opportunity. I had two parents as college coaches when I was younger. I regularly heard about their teams' conflict meetings and how confronting conflict solved problems. Conflict was not drama and gossip, but searching for solutions and problem solving.
Since I grew up watching this I believe I am not scared of conflict. I do sometimes choose to let things go or not prove I am right to avoid conflict, but this is when I believe the matter isn't important. I am not going to argue with my roommate about the dirty sink in the dish even if I know I didn't leave them. I will confront someone and create conflict if it is a morale issue or if I believe there can be growth to come from it.
Managing or creating conflict for growth isn't easy, but I do believe it is necessary. If there isn't conflict in a team the chances are it's suppressed, hidden, and it's just a matter of time before it boils up into a big problem that divides the entire team. When conflict is properly addressed a team can build stronger relationships and enhance productivity.
While I still believe I have a lot to practice when it comes to conflict, I believe the foundation that I have built as a leader in these situations will help me to continue to grow.
“I will elevate those around me, by empowering and expecting greatness from them, helping them find strength and rejoice in the challenges they face. I will see people with my heart, knowing they all fight their own battles, and step up to fight those battles with them. I will make the story better, striving to make the world a better place, but knowing that starts with making one person's world better.”
